#TwoForTuesday: Petula Clark

My Love

Petula Clark has been at it for over seven decades. She started as a BBC entertainer during World War II (when she was a preteen) and continues to this day. She’s an actress on stage and the big and small screens with an impressive resume, and is considered the First Lady of the British Invasion because of hits such as “Downtown,” “Don’t Sleep in the Subway,” and “This Is My Song,” as well as the two songs featured today. Naturally, she has a website and quite a few of her songs are available on YouTube.

I picked the songs today because other bands have done songs with the same names. First is “Colour My World,” from 1967. It reached #10 in Australia, #14 in Canada, #16 on the Hot 100, #18 on the Cash Box Survey, and #10 on the US Adult Contemporary charts. Second is “My Love,” from 1965. It reached #4 in the UK and Australia, #1 on the Hot 100 and in Canada, #2 on the Cash Box Survey, and #4 on the US Adult Contemporary chart.

And that’s Petula Clark, your Two for Tuesday, May 12, 2015.
