BATTLE OF THE BANDS: “Jolene” Results

To recap, the song I chose for this most recent Battle of the Bands was Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” and the contestants were The White Stripes and Strawberry Switchblade. Here are the results.

The White Stripes: 9
Strawberry Switchblade: 2

Thank you to the two people who voted for Strawberry Switchblade and kept this from being a shutout.

As Cherdo said in her comment, “Wow, you’re really getting some pushback on this one.” That’s putting it mildly. Two of you didn’t cast a vote because they felt this song belongs to Dolly Parton, which is true (I mean, she wrote it and all), although the number of covers would suggest otherwise. Joey pointed out that Miley Cyrus (who is, incidentally, Dolly Parton’s godchild) does a pretty good job of this.

Shows what happens when you compromise: this battle was first Miley vs. The White Stripes, then Miley vs. Strawberry Switchblade, but each time I thought Miley would run away with it. Maybe I should have pitted Miley against her godmother and let them fight it out.

These Battles of the Bands are a real learning experience…

Anyway, the next battle is next Monday, and I’ll be sure to make it a good one. See you then.

  1. I almost had a shutout too John! The underdog in my battle also received two votes. I did the hindsight thing too, wishing I had gone with my first instinct but alas, I didn’t. Oh well, we can’t win them all.
    Have a great week…

  2. Personally, I like all the battles…but I use the word “battle” loosely. I can never get too fired up about any artist, ha ha. Unless it’s the Beatles…or the Monkees…okay, maybe I lied.

I loved your battle, no complaints here! πŸ˜‰

  3. John, I went with White Stripes. I think it’s a bummer when someone decides to not vote because they either don’t like either version or prefer the original. It’s all in fun, so why not just let your hair down and go with the flow, right? Your battle turned out lopsided like mine. πŸ™‚ Good battle, though!
