Five Songs With An “-est” Word In The Title #socs

So, what do I do when I get a prompt I don’t know what to do with (like -est)? Create a song list, of course! I gave myself five minutes and came up with the list of five songs below.

Believe It Or Not (The Greatest American Hero theme) – Joey Scarbury The song ended up more popular than the show: it reached #2 on the Hot 100 and #3 on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1981. Okay, I stretched the theme a little to get this in…

Greatest Love Of All – Whitney Houston One of a string of #1 hits for Whitney in the mid-Eighties, it was also a hit for George Benson.

Best Of My Love – Eagles From their 1974 album On The Border, it was the third single from that album and the band’s first #1 hit, in 1975.

The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me – Gladys Knight & The Pips This was #1 on the R&B chart and #3 on the Hot 100 in 1974. It had been a #1 hit for Ray Price the year before (on the Hot Country Singles chart).

Happiest Girl In The Whole USA – Donna Fargo The title track from her 1972 album, it reached #1 on the Country chart and the top 20 on the Hot 100 that year.

How many songs with a word with -est in the title can you come up with in five minutes? The ones above don’t count…

  1. This was harder than expected. I spent 5 minutes thinking and did not cheat. I finally decided to think of songs with the word “best” to try to make it easier and came up with two…..both favorites of my wife: Best of Me by David Foster and Save the Best for Last by Vanessa Williams. I’m sure with more time I could have come up with more but oh well!

  2. Nice twist on the SoCS prompt, John. I think I remember an oldie “Testify” but I think it’s also the name of a newer song. Still, my favorite song that includes that word is Carole King, Jazz Man, which is from the album Tapestry – so, how ’bout it?

  3. Believe it or Not from Greatest American Hero is one of my favorite songs! We both like it and listen to it and sing along, all the time! ๐Ÿ™‚ and of course the Eagles songs …all of them ๐Ÿ™‚ … here’s the one I though of right away… Three Dog Night… One is the Loneliest Number.

  4. What You Doing The Rest Of Your Life. I can’t believe I thought of this song. I admit to looking it up after I thought of it to make sure I had the words right. (I didn’t – I thought it was …….Rest Of My Life)
