A Labor Day Observation #1LinerWeds

I’ve only been retired (on disability) four years, and I’ve noticed the same thing…

One-Liner Wednesday is brought to you each week by Linda Hill and this station. Now a word from our sponsors.

  1. My mom used to say the same thing when she was no longer working. I, on the other hand, love long weekends. Good old Ozzie and Harriet with Dave and Ricky…funny that Dave is the only one left. Coke ads have really come along since then but the iconic one is the one from the early 70’s

  2. I’ve always thought that Labor Day was kind of a weird day to be set aside as a holiday. It’s appeasement to the proletariat who for the most part aren’t even thinking about what the day is set aside for, but are just happy to have that day off.

  3. Loved Ozzie and Harriet. I find that I have the what day is it problem even while I am still working, since I work from home. Especially lately when my workload is light and I am done “working” by mid-morning. Then every day feels like Saturday. Each morning when I wake up I run through my head…”Today is…” Sometimes I can keep it there all day 🙂

    1. A little local religious station here plays old TV programs during primetime, and I think for a while they were showing “Ozzie and Harriet.” Decades (an oldies channel of sorts) has something called the Weekend Binge where they play some or all of the episodes of an old show all day Saturday and Sunday. They’re usually ’70’s cop shows (Kojak, Cannon, The Streets of San Francisco, etc.) but occasionally they do an old sitcom, and I’m hoping they do O&H one weekend.

  4. Long weekends are strange since I “retired” in January, especially after salivating after them for so many years. Now I celebrate that the beach will be less crowded.

  5. Hi John – I used to enjoy long weekends … but even then I always stayed off the roads etc and kept away from the populace if I could … now I still do the same! I’m glad you’re able to have this blog and wish you the best with the rest – getting old is not easy… cheers Hilary
